Study Information:
We have an exciting new research study opportunity at the Sport Performance and Research Center (SPARC) located at the Emory Healthcare Flowery Branch location that we think may interest you.
Athletic participation is an important consideration in musculoskeletal health. As many people move on from athletics, their participation as an athlete may have both positive and negative impacts on their joint health. Furthermore, many people in this category without current joint pain or limitations have not been well studied to this point.
In this research study, we are investigating the incidental musculoskeletal pathologic imaging findings in individuals with a history of sports participation in the past (high school, collegiate, or professional). In the individuals who elect to participate, we will perform a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) study of your spine and upper and lower extremity joints with the novel, high resolution scanners. Participants will also be asked to fill out a questionnaire and, time permitting, perform a video-recorded functional assessment of their joint motion. For your participation, you will receive an Emory SPARC t-shirt and a flash drive containing the MRI scan of any one joint that is captured during your study visit.
Please note, this study is not designed to benefit individual participants directly, though by participating in this study, you will help the field of orthopaedics and sports medicine better understand the impact of prior sports participation on their musculoskeletal health, as well as the incidence of incidental musculoskeletal findings. This will have a profound impact on our future ability to counsel and care for patients of all ages.
We are looking for anyone between the ages of 18 and 99 with a minimum of 3 months of sports participation at a highschool level or beyond.
